“The role of the osteopathy is to help the body heal itself.”
Andrew Taylor Still
What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a form of complementary medicine that emphasizes the interdependence between the body’s structure and function. The practitioner uses hands-on techniques to diagnose and treat a wide range of health issues, with a focus on the musculoskeletal system, including muscles, bones, joints, and connective tissues. By mobilizing these structures, the aim is to improve circulation, reduce pain, and enhance the body's natural ability to heal itself.
Osteopathy also considers the impact of lifestyle factors, such as diet and stress, on overall health, providing patients with holistic care tailored to your individual needs.
It’s role is seen as a supplementary approach to medical care, not a substitute, and is intended to work in harmony with traditional medicine.
I will first conduct a thorough assessment of your medical history and current health concerns. This involves asking questions about symptoms, performing physical examinations, and assessing posture and movement patterns.
Once the assessment is complete, I will use hands-on techniques to address any areas of tension, restriction, or dysfunction in the body. These techniques may include gentle stretching, massage, or mobilization of joints and soft tissues.
Every treatment is individualized based on your specific needs and may also involve providing advice on lifestyle factors such as exercise, posture, and stress management to support long-term health and well-being.
What to expect?
The frequency of osteopathic treatments varies depending on various factors, including your condition, the severity of symptoms, and how your body responds to treatment. Typically, treatments occur at intervals ranging from a few days to several weeks. Some patients may only need one or two treatments to alleviate their symptoms, while others may require regular treatment over a longer period to achieve long-term improvements. The exact frequency is determined collaboratively between you and me, based on individual needs and the treatment plan.
How often?
All treatments are on a self-pay basis. It depends on whether you are covered by your private health insurance for naturopathic services and osteopathy or whether you have taken out supplementary insurance for naturopathic services and osteopathy.
Since 01.01.2012, more and more statutory health insurance companies have been subsidizing osteopathy in Germany. In any case, please check with your health insurance company in advance to find out whether it subsidizes or covers osteopathic services and under what conditions. For example, you may need a recommendation from a doctor, which you should obtain before your first treatment.
